Stephen Altschul

Stephen Altschul is an adjunct professor in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies. He is also a senior investigator at the National Center for Biotechnology Information at the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

Altschul’s research centers on developing algorithms and methods for the comparison and analysis of DNA and protein sequences. His work includes creating tools for sequence alignment and similarity search, as well as advancing statistical theories and techniques for accurate sequence comparison.
