Michael Gullans

Adjunct Assistant Professor
Education:
Ph.D., Harvard University (Quantum Optics and Condensed Matter Theory)
Biography:

Michael Gullans is an adjunct assistant professor of physics with an adjunct appointment in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies. He is also a physicist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Gullans’s research focuses on the theoretical study of quantum information systems and quantum simulators, particularly in nonperturbative and strongly-interacting regimes. His work includes investigating error correction, fault-tolerance, and scalable tomography of quantum devices, with the goal of developing quantum simulators into reliable tools for studying many-body quantum physics and complex systems.
